Basketball Game Preview: Corona del Sol Aztecs vs. Sunnyslope Vikings

The Corona del Sol Aztecs will venture away from home to square off against the Sunnyslope Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Corona del Sol is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.

Last Tuesday, Corona del Sol came up short against Queen Creek and fell 60-49. While losing is never fun, the Aztecs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 227th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 89th).

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sunnyslope). They came out on top against Brophy College Prep by a score of 82-72 last Wednesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Vikings.

Sunnyslope's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-7. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.8 points per game. As for Corona del Sol, their loss dropped their record down to 2-15.

Things could have been worse for Corona del Sol, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 73-58 loss to Sunnyslope in their previous meeting back in March of 2021. Thankfully for Corona del Sol, Grady Lewis (who dropped a double-double on 35 points and 13 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
