Baseball Game Preview: Streator Bulldogs vs. Rochelle Hubs

The Streator Bulldogs will face off against the Rochelle Hubs at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Streator barely beat Reed-Custer the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Bulldogs put the hurt on the Comets with a sharp 13-1 victory on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won four games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Clay Christoff spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up ten Ks. Streator is 2-1 when Christoff allows two or fewer earned runs, but 4-5 otherwise.

At the plate, Cole Winterrowd was incredible, firing off two home runs and six RBI while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. He also scored two runs, which is notable because Streator is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-6 otherwise. Isiah Weibel was another key player, scoring a run while going 4-for-5.

Streator always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .535. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Rochelle). They came out on top against Rockford Auburn by a score of 12-8 on Thursday. The Hubs haven't had any issues with the Knights recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

The victory (which was Streator's third in a row) raised their record to 6-6. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Rochelle, their victory bumped their record up to 3-1.

Everything went Streator's way against Rochelle in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Streator made off with a 6-0 win. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Hubs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
