Softball Recap: Perkins Wins Going Away Against South Central

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Norwalk, Perkins was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They put the hurt on the South Central Trojans with a sharp 19-4 win. That looming 19-4 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Pirates yet this season.

Perkins got a great performance from Maycee Bohn as she tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits.

On the hitting side, Hannah Koelsch was a standout: she got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in hits (three). Natalie Martin was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.

Perkins kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are 4-2 when they post 11 or more hits.

Perkins' victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-7. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.0 runs over those games. As for South Central, their loss dropped their record down to 1-10.

Looking ahead, Perkins will challenge Firelands at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Pirates' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Falcons have averaged an impressive 9.6 runs per game this season. As for South Central, they will face off against Western Reserve at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
