Basketball Recap: La Porte Piles Up the Points Against Santa Fe

La Porte won the last time they faced Santa Fe and things went their way on Friday too. The La Porte Bulldogs blew past the Santa Fe Indians 81-47. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 165th, while the Indians are ranked 657th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Santa Fe's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kaidan Mata, who went 6 for 13 on his way to 14 points and five boards. Another player making a difference was Mason Crable, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.

La Porte pushed their record up to 20-9 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.7 points per game. As for Santa Fe, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-18 record this season.

La Porte is taking a road trip to challenge Angleton at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Angleton knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matches -- so hopefully La Porte likes a good challenge. As for Santa Fe, they will face off against Friendswood at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Friendswood has four straight wins, Santa Fe has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.
