Falcon has gone 10-0 against Elizabeth recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Falcon Falcons will face off against the Elizabeth Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
If Elizabeth heads into halftime all tied up, they better play a good second half: that's when Falcon took over last week. Falcon snuck past Pueblo County with a 42-36 win on Friday. Given the Falcons' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 94th, while the Hornets are ranked 222nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Falcon got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Cobelyn Wiesner out in front who posted 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cierra Barbary, who had ten points and eight boards.
Falcon smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 15 consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, Elizabeth blew past Wheat Ridge, posting a 52-25 win.
Elizabeth's win came from a few key players Falcon will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was London Machado, who put up 14 points in addition to six steals and five assists. That's the most steals she has posted since back in December of 2023. Larissa Wesbrook was another key player, going 6 for 13 en route to 15 points and six rebounds.
Falcon's victory bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Elizabeth, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-6.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Falcon has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 33.4 boards per game. However, it's not like Elizabeth struggles in that department as they've been averaging 36.4 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Everything came up roses for Falcon against Elizabeth in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, as the squad secured a 51-24 victory. Does Falcon have another victory up their sleeve, or will Elizabeth turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
