Softball Recap: Clay Has No Trouble Against Menendez

Clay barely beat Menendez the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Blue Devils blew past the Falcons 15-1 on Thursday. That looming 15-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Blue Devils yet this season.

Malia Collins made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2025.

In other batting news, Clay let Yarianis Gonzalex and D'Reah Watson run wild. Gonzalex went a perfect 5-for-5 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base, while Watson went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. Those two stolen bases gave Watson a new career-high. Brooke Hamilton was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Clay kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Clay's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-9. As for Menendez, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Clay will challenge Ponte Vedra at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Menendez, they will face off against Orange Park at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
