Basketball Recap: Benedictine Takes a Loss

Benedictine lost a heartbreaker to Peninsula Catholic when they met back in December of 2022, and they left with a heavy heart again on Saturday. The Benedictine Cadets were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 59-58 to the Peninsula Catholic Knights. While losing is never fun, the Cadets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 134th, while the Knights are ranked 38th).

Peninsula Catholic got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jaylen Wynn out in front who posted 19 points. The match was Wynn's seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Justin Hunter, who had 15 points.

Benedictine dropped their record down to 7-13 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Peninsula Catholic, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 15-8.

Benedictine will face off against Trinity Episcopal at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Trinity Episcopal has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Peninsula Catholic, they will challenge Norfolk Collegiate at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Peninsula Catholic's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last seven games.
