Basketball Game Preview: Newman Smith Trojans vs. Turner Lions

Newman Smith is on a ten-game streak of home losses, Turner a six-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck will change on Tuesday. The Newman Smith Trojans will welcome the Turner Lions at 7:15 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

On Friday, Newman Smith was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 64-63 to Lone Star. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 797th, while the Rangers are ranked 134th).

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Turner challenged The Colony on Friday. Turner took a 69-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of The Colony. The Lions were down 59-30 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Newman Smith will need to focus on slowing down DeShawn Stiles, one of several Turner players who made an impact when they last played. He went 6 for 15 en route to 15 points and seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Austin Castro, who posted six points and four steals.

Newman Smith's loss dropped their record down to 6-21. As for Turner, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-16.
