Preview: South Davidson Wildcats vs. Southwestern Randolph Cougars
South Davidson has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Southwestern Randolph Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully South Davidson focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Friday.
Even though South Davidson has not done well against Wheatmore recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way. South Davidson slipped by Wheatmore 50-49. The victory was just what South Davidson needed coming off of a 84-55 defeat in their prior contest.
South Davidson's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Tanner Delattre, who scored 22 points, and Tanner Walters, who scored 8 points along with 6 assists and 6 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Peyton Davis, who scored 8 points along with 5 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Southwestern Randolph's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They took a hard 68-51 fall against Asheboro. While losing is never fun, Southwestern Randolph can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 434th, while Asheboro is ranked 135th).
The losses dropped both teams to an identical 1-3.
South Davidson came up short against Southwestern Randolph in their previous matchup back in February of 2022, falling 57-45. Can South Davidson avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
