Lawrence Academy hasn't had much luck against Ridgecroft recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Lawrence Academy Warriors will venture away from home to face off against the Ridgecroft Rams at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
On Wednesday, Lawrence Academy didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Pungo Christian Academy, but they still walked away with a 57-51 win.
Nike Wiggins was his usual excellent self, putting up 22 points. Ben Woodard was another key player, earning 11 points.
Meanwhile, Ridgecroft unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Friday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 71-70 to Lawrence Academy.
Lawrence Academy will have to keep a close watch on Javion Leary and Antron Gray, a pair of players who had a big impact on Ridgecroft's prior game. Leary dropped a double-double on 25 points and ten boards, while Gray went 9 of 18 en route to 22 points in addition to seven assists and five rebounds. With that strong performance, Leary is now averaging an impressive 15.3 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Frank Jones, who posted nine points and five rebounds.
Even though they lost, Ridgecroft smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in ten consecutive matchups.
Lawrence Academy is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 11-9 record this season. As for Ridgecroft, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 13-5.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as both are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Lawrence Academy hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 59.5 points per game. However, it's not like Ridgecroft struggles in that department as they've been averaging 66.9 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Lawrence Academy barely slipped by Ridgecroft in their previous meeting on Friday, winning 71-70. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lawrence Academy since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
