Football Recap: New Iberia Drops Highest Score of Season Against Sulphur

New Iberia extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 13 on Friday, dropping them down to 0-6. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 44-41 heartbreaker at the hands of the Sulphur Golden Tors. On the bright side, the 41- point performance marked the Yellowjackets' highest-scoring game to date.

As for Sulphur, their win ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-4. The high-scoring effort was just what they needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.

Dalton Shirley had a dynamite game, rushing for 56 yards and two scores, while also throwing for 155 yards and a pair of TDs. Tyler Joubert was another key player, rushing for 88 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. New Iberia will square off against Barbe at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Yellowjackets will be up against the Buccaneers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 49.33 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Sulphur, they will face off against Southside at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Golden Tors will need to watch out since the Sharks have now posted at least 31 points in their last five contests.
