Softball Game Preview: Leyden Eagles vs. Willowbrook Warriors

Leyden hasn't had much luck against Willowbrook recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Eagles will square off against the Warriors at 4:45 p.m. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

South Elgin hit Leyden with a four-run sixth inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Eagles came up short against the Storm, falling 12-0. The Eagles' defeat continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.

Meanwhile, Willowbrook didn't have quite enough to beat York on Thursday and fell 3-1. The Warriors have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Willowbrook saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Marli Smrz, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Willowbrook's loss dropped their record down to 12-9. As for Leyden, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-11.

Leyden couldn't quite get it done against Willowbrook in their previous matchup back in April as they fell 6-1. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
