Baseball Recap: Tehachapi Snaps Eight-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Tehachapi dropped their record down to 21-7 on Thursday, which also ended the team's eight-game streak of wins at home. They fell just short of the South Spartans by a score of 3-1. The Warriors were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Spartans earlier this season, when they won 8-1.

As for South, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games.

For South's part, Josh Encinas spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits and racked up eight Ks. Encinas has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jose Bojorquez, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run. He is becoming a predictor of South's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 15-3 (and 4-5 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Tomas Encinas, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Coming up, Tehachapi will host Independence at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. South does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
