Basketball Recap: Newman Smith Takes a Loss

Newman Smith lost against Reedy back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. 2025 welcomed the Newman Smith Trojans with a 45-22 loss courtesy of the Reedy Lions. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 276th, while the Lions are ranked 137th).

Newman Smith has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-5 record this season. As for Reedy, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 17-9 record.

Newman Smith didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 70-19 loss against Highland Park on the 7th. As for Reedy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 69-10 win against Turner on the 7th.
