Softball Game Preview: Avon Grove Red Devils vs. Unionville Longhorns

The Avon Grove Red Devils are taking a road trip to challenge the Unionville Longhorns at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Avon Grove is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.

Avon Grove will head out to face Unionville after giving up their first home loss of the season on Wednesday. The Red Devils fell just short of Downingtown West by a score of 2-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Red Devils have suffered since April 26, 2024.

Elle Burns spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

Unionville never got on the board in their matchup on Wednesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Kennett on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Blue Demons with a sharp 13-6 victory. The Longhorns haven't had any issues with the Blue Demons recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

Peyton Brown made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off nine hits. Brown was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with five RBI. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Addison Smith and Gracie Brun did most of the damage at the plate: Smith went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Brun went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those two doubles gave Smith a new career-high. Shannon Megill was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

Avon Grove's defeat dropped their record down to 16-3. As for Unionville, their record is now 11-8.
