Recap: Bell Creek Academy Panthers vs. Excel Christian Academy Spartans

The Bell Creek Academy Panthers managed to keep up with the Excel Christian Academy Spartans until halftime on Thursday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Bell Creek Academy took a serious blow against Excel Christian Academy, falling 79-48. Bell Creek Academy was down 63-36 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Despite the defeat, Bell Creek Academy saw an underclassman step up: Christyana Allen dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds. Allen is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Aliah Newsome, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds.

Excel Christian Academy was led to victory by Anyla Parker and Soleil DeJesus. Parker dropped a triple-double on 25 points, 12 rebounds, and ten assists, while DeJesus dropped a double-double on 41 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which DeJesus has scored at least a third of Excel Christian Academy's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Taleah Demmings, who scored two points along with six rebounds and five steals.

Bell Creek Academy's loss dropped their record down to 13-11. As for Excel Christian Academy, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 12-9.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bell Creek Academy will take on Fort Meade at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Bell Creek Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 41 on Thursday. As for Excel Christian Academy, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Jordan Christian Prep at 6:00 p.m. on February 2nd. Jordan Christian Prep will roll in looking for their 11th straight win, something Excel Christian Academy surely won't give up without a fight.
