Brocton hasn't had much luck against Gowanda recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Bulldogs will take on the Panthers at 5:00 p.m.
Brocton is headed into Friday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game dating back to last season on Wednesday. They lost 21-3 to Silver Creek.
Zoe Spiller made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Paige Miller, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Panthers on Wednesday. Gowanda's pitcher stepped up to hand Pine Valley Central a 12-0 shutout. That looming 12-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Gowanda yet this season.
Addison Kota made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over six innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in May of 2024. She was also big at the plate, firing off three home runs, four runs, and five RBI while going 4-for-4. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 2.2 runs per game.
In other batting news, Jenna Luther was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Alayna Fish also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Gowanda kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Brocton's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Gowanda, their record is now 4-2.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Brocton hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like Gowanda struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Brocton might still be hurting after the 18-0 defeat they got from Gowanda in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Bulldogs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
