Softball Game Preview: American Leadership Academy Patriots vs. Heathwood Hall Episcopal Highlanders

American Leadership Academy is on a five-game streak of home losses, and Heathwood Hall Episcopal a seven-game streak of away losses dating back to last season. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Thursday. The American Leadership Academy Patriots will host the Heathwood Hall Episcopal Highlanders at 7:15 p.m.

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Wednesday as neither American Leadership Academy nor Providence Athletic Club made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Patriots took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Panthers.

Ellie Beers spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on three hits and racked up 14 Ks.

At the plate, American Leadership Academy saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brennan Wilson, who went 1-for-3 with one double.

Meanwhile, while Heathwood Hall Episcopal put up some runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Augusta Christian. The Highlanders blew past the Lions 8-0. The Highlanders not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 12, 2024 (when they won 18-3).

Salley Humphries made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.6 strikeouts per game. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Heathwood Hall Episcopal let Chloe Rosenbaum and Frances Laughlin run wild. Rosenbaum went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Laughlin got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Mamie Biel also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

American Leadership Academy's loss dropped their record down to 5-17-1. As for Heathwood Hall Episcopal, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.
