The New Berlin West Vikings will venture away from home to take on the Greendale Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
New Berlin West made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Pius XI Catholic, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Vikings put the hurt on the Popes with a sharp 11-4 win on Tuesday. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Vikings' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Gillian Konrath made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. Konrath was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4. That stolen base was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Serena Klein and Chloe Wegehaupt did most of the damage at the plate: Klein went 4-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Wegehaupt scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-5. That triple marked the first that Klein hit this season. Izzy Freisleben was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-5.
New Berlin West kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Greendale won against Pius XI Catholic on Monday with 14 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. The Panthers came out on top against Pewaukee by a score of 14-9. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Pirates recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Greendale got a massive performance out of Abby Brinkman, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave Brinkman a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lyla Gibson, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Greendale's record now sits at 3-1. As for New Berlin West, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.
New Berlin West might still be hurting after the 10-0 loss they got from Greendale in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Vikings avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
