Softball Preview: Westmoreland Eagles vs. West Point Pointers

The Westmoreland Eagles will face off against the West Point Pointers at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

West Point will be up against a hot Westmoreland squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. The Eagles blew past Chancellor 17-1 back in March.

Madelynn Hays was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs.

In other batting news, Westmoreland got a massive performance out of Teagan Clarke, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Everything went their way against Colonial Beach on Wednesday as they made off with a 34-15 win. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

West Point's win bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Westmoreland, their victory bumped their record up to 3-0.

Westmoreland couldn't quite get it done against West Point in their previous matchup back in April of 2023 as they fell 7-4. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
