El Cerrito extended their winning streak to five on Friday, bumping their season record up to 17-7 in the process. They had just enough and edged out the Albany Cougars 7-5. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 4-2 on Wednesday.
El Cerrito got a great performance from Jackson Beebout as he struck out six batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. Beebout has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Warren Lieu was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Reggie Burnham, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.
As for Albany, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 15-9. Even worse, they were so close both times: the losses came by an average of only two runs.
On Albany's side, Jude Hatamiya was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out ten batters over 6.1 innings while giving up five earned runs off five hits.
On the hitting side, Magnus Williams made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and three RBI. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Dexter Johnson, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
