Preview: Heartland Christian Saints vs. Calvary Christian EAGLES
After six games on the road, Heartland Christian is heading back home. They will take on the Calvary Christian EAGLES at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Indiana (Heartland Christian is ranked 13th, while Calvary Christian is ranked 11th).
Last Monday, Heartland Christian came up short against Anderson HomeSchool and fell 60-50.
Despite their loss, Heartland Christian saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Landon Clemens, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 14 rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Clemens scored a full 30% of Heartland Christian's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Reagan Clemens, who scored 11 points.
Meanwhile, even though Suburban Christian scored an imposing 56 points last Saturday, Calvary Christian still came out on top. Calvary Christian came out on top in a nail-biter against Suburban Christian and snuck past 58-56.
Calvary Christian got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Josiah Obando out in front who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 18 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Obando has scored at least 25% of Calvary Christian's points. Braeden Pero was another key contributor, scoring 22 points.
Heartland Christian's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Calvary Christian, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season.
Friday's game is shaping up to be a scrappy matchup: Heartland Christian haven't given up the ball easily this season, having only averaged 0 turnovers per game. It's a different story for Calvary Christian, though, as they've been averaging 15.9 per game. Given Heartland Christian's sizeable advantage in that area, Calvary Christian will need to find a way to close that gap.
