Tri-Township hasn't had much luck against Boone Grove recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Tigers will square off against the Wolves at 4:30 p.m. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.
Tri-Township is headed into Friday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their sixth straight game on Thursday. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-1 heartbreaker at the hands of Marquette Catholic. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Tigers have suffered since June 1, 2024.
Cody Vernich spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits and racked up 11 Ks.
At the plate, Dillon Stewart was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, Boone Grove unfortunately witnessed the end of their ten-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of Valparaiso by a score of 1-0. The shutout was out of character for the Wolves seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in April.
Boone Grove saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Andrew Batesole, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
Tri-Township's loss dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Boone Grove, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Tri-Township has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Boone Grove struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Tri-Township came out on top in a nail-biter against Boone Grove when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 7-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
