Mt. Baker (Deming, Wash.) snatched the lead for good when
Izaiha Schwinden ran for a touchdown in the second quarter, paving the way for victory over Nooksack Valley (Everson, Wash.) 59-14.
The Mountaineers were up 42-14 at the half after taking the lead on a touchdown run by Schwinden in the second quarter.
Mt. Baker expanded its lead to 35 points entering the fourth quarter. MB scored once in the quarter on a
Liam Short touchdown run.
Even though the Deming school led by 35 points entering the fourth quarter, it poured the points on, scoring 10 in the fourth.
Curtis Handy made a difference for the Pioneers. The sophomore running back caught two touchdowns.
Jake Schleimer stood out for the Mountaineers in the win. The senior running back ran for two touchdowns.
The defeat comes as a step back for Nooksack Valley, which notched a 56-15 victory over Coupeville in its previous outing.
Mt. Baker (4-1) will play a 1A/2A/3A Northwest game against Lynden Christian next week, while Nooksack Valley (3-2) will take on Meridian also in a 1A/2A/3A Northwest game.
