Football Recap: Richfield Wildcats vs. Cedar Reds

After flying high against Manti last Friday, Richfield came back down to earth. The Wildcats took a 49-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cedar Reds on Friday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (40), the Wildcats still had to take the loss.

Despite the loss, Richfield still got an impressive performance from Trey Yardley, who rushed for 187 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 12 carries, and also picked up 38 receiving yards. Yardley's longest rush was for an incredible 71 yards.

Everett Kelling produced another solid performance rushing for 164 yards and four TDs on only 15 carries, while also throwing for 231 yards and one touchdown for Cedar. Those four rushing touchdowns gave Kelling a new career-high. Braxton Demille also helped out as he racked up 141 rushing yards.

Richfield's defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 5-2. As for Cedar, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 7-0.

Coming up, Richfield will be playing at home against Juab at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats will need to watch out since the Wasps have now posted at least 31 points in their last three contests. As for Cedar, they will head out on the road to square off against Canyon View at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Kelling and Ryder Miller.
