McCutcheon has gone 8-2 against Kokomo recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The McCutcheon Mavericks will face off against the Kokomo Wildkats at 7:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Kokomo will be up against a hot McCutcheon squad: the team just extended their winning streak to seven. McCutcheon blew past West Lafayette 71-32 on Tuesday. Given the Mavericks' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 13th, while the Red Devils are ranked 279th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
McCutcheon found their leader in sophomore Lillie Graves, who went 15 for 20 en route to 30 points and five steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Graves has scored at least a third of McCutcheon's points. Another player making a difference was Keara Lipscomb-Allen, who went 6 of 9 on her way to 13 points and four steals.
McCutcheon smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Kokomo humbled Muncie Central with a 60-32 victory. The game was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Wildkats had established a 23 point advantage.
Kokomo's win came from a few key players McCutcheon will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Eliana Stewart, who posted eight points along with nine boards and seven steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Avi Pollard, who went 6 for 13 en route to 18 points.
Kokomo has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.0 points per game. As for McCutcheon, their victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-3.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: McCutcheon has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 33.3 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Kokomo struggles in that department as they've been averaging 31.5 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
