Baseball Recap: Homer Has No Trouble Against Grace Christian

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Kenai Central, Homer was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They put the hurt on the Grace Christian Grizzlies with a sharp 11-1 victory. With that win, the Mariners brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.

Clyde Clemens made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Homer's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 5-6 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, CJ Burns was incredible, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Cohen Boyd, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Homer's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-6. As for Grace Christian, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Homer is set to square off against their familiar foe Palmer at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Grace Christian will take on rival Kenai Central at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
