Baseball Recap: Rockford East Comes Up Short

Rockford East extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 25 on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 0-14 in the process. They lost 17-2 to the Guilford Vikings. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Vikings this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 21-0 on Monday.

As for Guilford, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 10-9. Considering they have won seven contests by more than nine runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

For Guilford's part, they let James Versino and Trevor Erickson run wild. Versino got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs, while Erickson got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Versino is becoming a predictor of Guilford's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-2 (and 5-7 when he doesn't). Maddux Lee was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rockford East will challenge Jefferson at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Guilford, they will square off against Woodstock at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
