Volleyball Recap: Desert Oasis Comes Up Short in High-Profile Matchup with Coronado

Desert Oasis faced Coronado in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Diamondbacks took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cougars. The Diamondbacks have struggled against the Cougars recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost meeting.

Desert Oasis started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 23-25, 25-20, 25-20, 25-23.

Ellis Mcgrath paced Desert Oasis' offense, picking up 19 kills. Mcgrath got some help from Carter Aldridge and his 35 assists. Jacob Wienke controlled things from the service line, finishing with three aces.

Coronado can attribute much of their success to DEACON MENLOVE, who had 16 digs and five assists. Those five assists gave MENLOVE a new career-high.

Desert Oasis' loss dropped their record down to 16-18. As for Coronado, the win (which was their 16th in a row) raised their record to 32-2.

Desert Oasis has already played their next match, a 3-0 defeat against Palo Verde on the 24th. As for Coronado, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 3-0 victory against Silverado on the 23rd.
