Recap: North Marion Colts vs. Hawthorne Hornets
This season hasn't been kind to the North Marion Colts, who are still winless after their 14th match. They were dealt a 66-17 loss at the hands of Hawthorne on Tuesday. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for North Marion in their matchups with Hawthorne: they've now lost seven in a row.
Despite the loss, North Marion saw an underclassman step up: Amarane Hopkins scored nine points along with ten rebounds. Hopkins continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.
Jhalea Jackson was a one-man wrecking crew for Hawthorne as she dropped a double-double on 13 rebounds and ten assists. Jackson is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Ranicia Coleman, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
North Marion bumped their record down to 0-14 with that loss, which was their seventh straight on the road. As for Hawthorne, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 9-3.
North Marion won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Dunnellon at 6:00 p.m. on January 17th. Dunnellon is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 57.2 points per game. As for Hawthorne, they will head out on the road to square off against Gainesville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Florida (Gainesville is ranked 132nd, while Hawthorne is ranked 137th).
