Softball Recap: Hattiesburg's Luck Changes for the Better on Friday

Hattiesburg had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Perry Central Bulldogs on Friday. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by ten runs or more this season.

Camiyah Craft was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in February. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Darriyah Walls, who scored two runs and stole five bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Those five stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Chloee Parhm, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs.

Hattiesburg's win bumped their record up to 9-7. As for Perry Central, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-8-1 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hattiesburg will challenge West Jones at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Perry Central, they will square off against Tylertown at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
