Basketball Game Preview: Civic Memorial Eagles vs. Carlyle Indians/Lady Indians

The Civic Memorial Eagles will venture away from home to square off against the Carlyle Indians/Lady Indians at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Civic Memorial is headed into the game having just suffered their closest defeat since February 9, 2024 on Thursday. They fell just short of Teutopolis by a score of 36-33. The contest marked the Eagles' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Meanwhile, Carlyle came up short against Glenwood on Wednesday and fell 60-52.

Civic Memorial will have to keep a close watch on Lera Schmeink and Sophia Hoffmann, a pair of players who had a big impact on Carlyle's prior game. Schmeink went 7 of 15 en route to 16 points, while Hoffmann dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. That's the most boards Hoffmann has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Raelyn Harris, who posted seven points.

Even though they lost, Carlyle was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Glenwood only posted two assists.

Civic Memorial's loss dropped their record down to 18-4. As for Carlyle, their defeat dropped their record down to 18-5.

Civic Memorial came out on top in a nail-biter against Carlyle in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, sneaking past 49-47. Will Civic Memorial repeat their success, or does Carlyle have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
