Football Recap: Timpson Comes Up Short

The Timpson Bears were within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 34-28 to the Hooks Hornets. While the Bears had to settle for second, they closed the game well in the third quarter, where they outscored the Hornets 7-0.

Ripken Birdwell had another great game (as he tends to do), throwing for 377 yards and three TDs while completing 76.9% of his passes, and also rushing for 34 yards and one score for Hooks. What's more, Birdwell racked up 156.7 passer rating, the most he's had since back in October of 2024. Preston Nickolson was Birdwell's top target, picking up 109 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Timpson now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Hooks, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Timpson and Hooks should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. The Bears will take on Hemphill at 7:30 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (492 vs. 1037). Meanwhile, Hooks (ranked 449th) will meet Hughes Springs (ranked 1035th) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
