Baseball Game Preview: Groesbeck Goats vs. Fairfield Eagles

The Groesbeck Goats will challenge the Fairfield Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Groesbeck is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Mexia on Friday as they made off with a 19-9 win.

Nick Sanchez made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 5-for-6 with five runs, five RBI, and one triple. Those five runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Jaxon Jones and Trent Platt did most of the damage at the plate: Jones scored three runs while getting on base in four of his six plate appearances, while Platt scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his six plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave Jones a new career-high in RBI (two). Reid Stevens was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Fairfield had already won 12 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.6 runs) and they went ahead and made it 13 on Friday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Elks a 10-0 shutout. Give the Eagles' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.

Fairfield pushed their record up to 15-2 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Groesbeck, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-7-1 record this season.
