Basketball Recap: Douglas County Comes Up Short

Douglas County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a blow against the Highlands Ranch Falcons, falling 76-23. The Huskies were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 49-9.

Despite the defeat, Douglas County saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Megan Thorne posted six points in addition to three steals and three blocks.

Highlands Ranch's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ezra Simonich, who went 6 of 9 en route to 20 points along with five assists and five steals. Simonich has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Tori Baker, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten assists.

Douglas County's loss dropped their record down to 3-11. As for Highlands Ranch, they pushed their record up to 13-2 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Douglas County will square off against Chaparral at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Douglas County is facing Chaparral at the right time seeing as Chaparral is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Highlands Ranch, it'll be a Battle of the Birds when the Highlands Ranch Falcons challenge the Mountain Vista Golden Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Highlands Ranch's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last nine matchups.
