The Bexley Lions will venture away from home to square off against the Whitehall-Yearling Rams at 5:15 p.m. on Monday. Bexley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10 runs per game this season.
Bexley was handed a 12-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-6 win over Grove City Christian.
Bexley let Davaney Prophet and Zoe Lemon run wild. Prophet went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double, while Lemon went 3-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Kayla Duffee was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 15 runs the game before, Whitehall-Yearling was a bit more limited in their matchup on Friday. They lost 20-1 to Grandview Heights. The Rams have struggled against the Bobcats recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Whitehall-Yearling saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mia Latham, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one double.
Bexley has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.2 runs over those games. As for Whitehall-Yearling, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-9.
Whitehall-Yearling's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Bexley has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9 hits per game. It's a different story for Whitehall-Yearling, though, as they've been averaging 9.7 hits. Given Bexley's sizable advantage in that area, the Rams will need to find a way to close that gap.
Bexley got the 'W' in their previous matchup on April 10th against Whitehall-Yearling by a conclusive 12-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lions since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
