Basketball Recap: San Juan Comes Up Short

San Juan lost against North Sevier on January 3rd and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The San Juan Broncos were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 56-55 to the North Sevier Wolves. The Broncos have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

When it comes to explaining why San Juan lost, don't look at Kaidence Mitchell. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Mitchell a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Hayden Shumway, who posted 15 points.

Even though they lost, San Juan smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

San Juan's loss dropped their record down to 6-12. As for North Sevier, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-11.

San Juan has already played their next contest, a 54-51 defeat against Monument Valley on the 29th. As for North Sevier, they and Gunnison Valley will meet in a dog eat dog contest at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. North Sevier has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
