Volleyball Recap: Lubbock-Cooper's Loss Ends Six-Game Winning Streak at Home

Lubbock-Cooper and Grapevine squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but Lubbock-Cooper had to settle for second. They fell 3-1 to the Mustangs. The Pirates were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mustangs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in August of 2024.

The defeat didn't mean the game wasn't competitive: Grapevine scored at least 18 points in every set. The final score came out to 25-22, 25-18, 23-25, 25-19.

When it comes to explaining why Lubbock-Cooper lost, don't look at Broox Lopez. Despite the final result, she had 11 digs, two aces, and one block. Lopez is also on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 13 or more in each of the last six games she's played. Another player making a difference was Haley McCallick, who had 15 kills.

Grapevine found their leader in freshman Prescott Carey, who had 18 digs and three aces.

Lubbock-Cooper's loss ended a six-match streak of wins at home and dropped them to 25-13. As for Grapevine, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 26-19 record this season.

As of now, neither Lubbock-Cooper nor Grapevine have any future games scheduled.
