Softball Recap: Oldham County Comes Up Short in High-Profile Game with Assumption

Oldham County faced Assumption in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Colonels took a 10-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Rockets. The Colonels were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Rockets apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Aubrey Batts and Sydney Wirth did some serious damage despite the final result: Batts went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI, while Wirth went 2-for-4 with one home run and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Devyn Collins, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one double.

Oldham County's defeat dropped their record down to 18-3. As for Assumption, they are on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 18 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-6 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Oldham County will face off against Mercer County at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Colonels' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Titans have averaged an impressive 7.9 runs per game this season. As for Assumption, they are taking a road trip to challenge Meade County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Green Waves' pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so the Rockets' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
