Preview: Millikan Rams vs. Lakewood Lancers
Millikan and Lakewood are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The Millikan Rams will be home for the holidays to greet the Lakewood Lancers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Millikan has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 426 points over their last six contests.
Millikan pushed their score all the way to 75 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Woodrow Wilson by a score of 78-75. Despite running the score up even higher than they did on Wednesday (71), Millikan still had to take the loss.
Millikan's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Jeremiah Hunt, who scored 28 points along with five steals, and Dylan Williams who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds. The contest was Hunt's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Corlin Bryant was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
Millikan struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Lakewood had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They came out on top against Sonora by a score of 62-52.
Millikan has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season. As for Lakewood, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season.
Millikan didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Lakewood in their previous meeting back in January, but they still walked away with a 75-69 win. Does Millikan have another victory up their sleeve, or will Lakewood turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
