Baseball Recap: Acalanes Extends Winning Streak to Five

It's playoff time, and Acalanes had no trouble coming through when it counted. Everything went their way against the Chico Panthers on Tuesday as they made off with a 9-3 victory. The win was familiar territory for the Dons, who have now won five games in a row.

Branson Smith tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Ando Butner was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Drew Asadorian, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Acalanes' victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-10-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Chico, their loss ended a 19-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 28-2.

Looking ahead, Acalanes will face off against Saint Francis at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Dons 2.6, the Lancers 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. Chico does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
