League recap: Cota throws longest pass in league this season for Salpointe Catholic

Andrew Cota and Cameron Denson provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Chaparral. The connection went for 98 yards, the longest such play in II Section V this season.

Salpointe Catholic added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Firebirds, 46-20. The victory was the 14th in a row for the team.

Salpointe Catholic's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Cota threw for 266 and 4 touchdowns and Denson had 148 yards receiving. On the ground Cota contributed 32 yards. Kaelin Deboskie helped Salpointe Catholic's passing attack out by catching 7 balls for 112 yards.

He was 12-19 with 0 interceptions.

Cota put up the best numbers through the air as Dennis Bene's team beat Chaparral. Cota's favorite target this week was Denson, who caught 4 passes for 148 yards.

Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Lancers' Cota and Denson have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-1 quarterback Cota has thrown for 2,748 yards this season, while Denson has 73 catches for 1,453 yards. Richie Estrada from Mountain View leads the league in rushing with 1,739 yards.

So far this year, he has garnered 55 catches for 964 yards.

Bryce Coleman has rushed for 933 yards on 120 carries so far this year.

Salpointe Catholic took down David Huffine's team 46-20 last week, the largest margin of any game. Cota ran for 32 yards in the win.
