Baseball Game Preview: Southington Blue Knights vs. Avon Falcons

Southington is 9-1 against Avon since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Blue Knights will be playing at home against the Falcons at 5:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Southington has four straight wins, Avon has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Monday, Southington needed a bit of extra time to put away Bristol Central. They blew past the Rams 15-5. With that victory, the Blue Knights brought their scoring average up to 7.8 runs per game.

Gabe Hinkson looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

On the hitting side, Southington got a big performance out of Mark Zigmont, who scored three runs while getting on base in three of his six plate appearances. Those three runs gave Zigmont a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Marco Spataro, who went 2-for-5 with four RBI and one run.

Southington kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, it was a Battle of the Birds when Avon faced off against Enfield on Monday. The Falcons lost 13-6 to the Eagles.

Southington pushed their record up to 4-0 with the win, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Avon, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.

Southington was able to grind out a solid win over Avon in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 10-5. Do the Blue Knights have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Falcons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
