Baseball Recap: Southwest SD Comes Up Short

Southwest SD had lost four straight at home, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 8-8-1 to make it five. They fell just short of the Olympian Eagles by a score of 2-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Raiders have suffered since March 27th.

Sebestian Martinez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

As for Olympian, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-5-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games.

On Olympian's side, Southwest SD's batters probably weren't too happy with Aaron Gonzalez, who pitched a no hitter and racked up eight Ks (he gave up zero walks).

At the plate, Olympian saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Esteban Diaz, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. That's the most hits Diaz has posted since back in March of 2024.

Looking ahead, Southwest SD will welcome High Tech CV at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Bruins will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last. As for Olympian, they have already played their next game, a 9-0 defeat against Otay Ranch on the 14th.
