Basketball Recap: West Ranch Find Success

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against St. Francis, West Ranch was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They escaped with a win against the Canyon Cowboys by the margin of a single free throw, 57-56. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Wildcats' disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 352nd, while the Cowboys are ranked 140th).

Canyon's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chigozie Osuji, who posted 18 points. Another player making a difference was Isaac Yuhico, who put up 13 points.

West Ranch has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.0 points per game. As for Canyon, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 17-6.

West Ranch wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 79-65 defeat against Saugus on the 24th. As for Canyon, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 77-61 loss against Oaks Christian on the 25th.
