The Wilson Hall Barons are taking a road trip to challenge the First Baptist School Hurricanes at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Wilson Hall has five straight wins, First Baptist School has five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Friday, everything came up roses for Wilson Hall against Thomas Sumter Academy as the team secured a 42-12 victory. Considering the Barons have won five games by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

It was another big night for Ben McLaurin, who rushed for 161 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only five carries. Those 161 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Ford Wilder also helped with two TDs in total.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Wilson Hall was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 326 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 173 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Wilson Hall didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Peyton Gilley, Harris Naylor, Cooper Hill, and McLaurin picked up one apiece. Gilley is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in each of the last four games he's played. He got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, First Baptist School took a blow against Pinewood Prep on Friday, falling 49-6. While losing is never fun, the Hurricanes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 224th, while the Panthers are ranked 99th).
First Baptist School's defeat dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Wilson Hall, their win bumped their record up to 8-1.
Everything came up roses for Wilson Hall against First Baptist School when the teams last played back in November of 2024, as the squad secured a 45-7 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Barons since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
