Preview: Stagg Delta Kings vs. Weston Ranch Cougars
Stagg is 0-3 against Weston Ranch since January of 2023 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Stagg Delta Kings will head out on the road to face off against the Weston Ranch Cougars at 7:30 p.m. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Stagg has struggled recently with seven losses in a row, while Weston Ranch will arrive with 13 straight wins.
Stagg suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Wednesday. They were beaten by Edison 95-29. While losing is never fun, Stagg can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1152nd, while Edison is ranked 342nd).
In what's become a running theme this season, Weston Ranch gave their fans yet another huge victory on Wednesday. They breezed by Bear Creek on the road to the tune of 91-45. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Weston Ranch has posted since December 2, 2023.
Mateen Rafiq and Richard Banks were among the main playmakers for Weston Ranch as the former went 8 for 12 from beyond the arc en route to 29 points and 3 assists and the latter almost dropped a triple-double on 20 points, 13 assists, and nine steals. Banks hasn't dropped below two steals for 17 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Shaanveer Natt, who scored eight points along with four steals.
Stagg's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-20. As for Weston Ranch, their victory bumped their record up to 19-3.
Stagg was dealt a bruising 94-20 defeat at the hands of Weston Ranch in their previous matchup on January 10th. The match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Stagg was down 48-17.
