Baseball Recap: Hawthorne Comes Up Short

If Hawthorne was feeling good fresh off their 13-2 takedown of Inglewood on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Cougars took a 9-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lawndale Cardinals on Tuesday. The defeat continues a trend for the Cougars in their meetings with the Cardinals: they've now lost nine in a row.

Eion Cooper and Daniel Montoya stepped up to the plate in a big way. Cooper went 3-for-4 with two RBI, while Montoya went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Hawthorne's loss dropped their record down to 9-15-1. As for Lawndale, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season.

While Hawthorne had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
