The Mason Comets have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matchups by 22 points or more this season. Couldn't have asked for a better way to wrap up 2023 than the 77-49 stomp they got on the road against Golden Gate. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest win Mason has managed all season.
When it comes to explaining why Golden Gate lost on Wednesday, one person who can't be blamed is Whylkeems Estimond. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. Estimond set a new season high mark in blocks with two. Another player making a difference was Sam Powell, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds.
Mason's victory bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Golden Gate, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-8.
Mason will be playing in front of their home fans against Fairfield at 7:30 p.m. on January 5th. Golden Gate won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Lehigh at 12:30 p.m. on December 28, 2023. Lehigh presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Golden Gate in Florida (Lehigh is ranked 238th, while Golden Gate is ranked 499th).
