Baseball Game Preview: Plano Reapers vs. Gardner-South Wilmington Panthers

The Plano Reapers will head out to challenge the Gardner-South Wilmington Panthers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The last five games Plano has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

While Plano's win against Newark wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Reapers narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Norsemen 5-4. The Reapers haven't had any issues with the Norsemen recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Jason Phillips was excellent, going 1-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. He is becoming a predictor of Plano's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is undefeated (and 6-18 when he doesn't).

Meanwhile, Gardner-South Wilmington fell victim to St. Anne and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They lost 12-0 to the Cardinals. The Panthers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Gardner-South Wilmington saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aiden Mack, who went 1-for-2 with one double.

Gardner-South Wilmington's loss dropped their record down to 7-13. As for Plano, their victory bumped their record up to 9-18.

Plano took their win against Gardner-South Wilmington when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 14-4 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Reapers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
